84 + 89

Double 84  168 + 5 = 173

Double 89  178 - 5 = 173

A shopkeeper bought 245 eggs and sold 78 eggs. How many eggs were left unsold? 167

245 + 5 - 78 + 5

250 - 83 = 167

Dora got $325 from her father and $89 from her mother. How much money does she have now? 414

325 - 1 = 324

89 + 1 = 90

324 + 90 = 414

WALT : Solve Maths equations that have more than one operations using the order of operations rule. (BEDMAS / PEDMAS)

SUCCESS CRITERIA :

• I must understand the meaning of the term operations.
• I must understand the order of operations rule.
• I must able to solve an equation with multiple operations.

1. 3 + 7 x 4 = 31

7 x 4 = 28

28 + 3 = 31

2. 5 - 2 + 3 = 0

2 + 3 = 5

5 - 5 = 0

3. 6 x 4 ÷ 3 + 1 = 9

24 ÷ 3 + 1

8 + 1 = 9

4. ( 4 -2 ) + 3 x 6 = 20

2 + 3 x 6

2 + 18 = 20

5. 8 + 3 x ( 4 - 1 ) x 2 = 26

8 + 3 x 3 x 2

8 + 3 x 6

8 + 18 = 26

 6. 2( 32 + 1)2 = 200

2 ( 9 + 1 )2

2 x 100 = 200

 7. 3 + ( 4 + 5) 2 ÷ 27 = 6

I have -$870 on my credit card.  I repaid $35 on my credit card. How much money do I now have?

-870 + 35 = -835  

Interest is 10%.  How much will interest be?

835% of 10% = 83.5%

What will the number problem be to show the total amount I pay?

-835 - 83.5

How much do I owe?

= 918.5

I am solving a word problem that involves how to find a percentage of a number, it helps me to figure out weather I have to add or subtract a negative digit.
